SUHO completed a Class 2 residential project, consisting of 340 two and three-bedroom apartments. This development aimed to provide comfortable and sustainable living spaces for its occupants. The project also included Class 9b common spaces, where careful analysis and collaboration were crucial for achieving optimal sustainability outcomes.
The project began with a comprehensive assessment of the NatHERS rating for each apartment. The initial findings revealed variations in performance, particularly on the ground floor and penthouse apartments, attributed to higher exposed floor area and roof area respectively to outside air. The challenge was to address these variations and elevate the overall NatHERS rating to meet sustainability goals.
SUHO's team of ESD (Environmentally Sustainable Design) consultants played a pivotal role in addressing the NatHERS rating disparities. While providing standard specifications for the apartments, the team also collaborated closely with the architect to devise tailored upgrades. This approach allowed for a nuanced response to the specific challenges faced by ground floor and penthouse apartments, ensuring optimal energy efficiency.
The success of the project can be attributed to the seamless collaboration between SUHO's ESD consultants and the project architect. By working hand-in-hand, they were able to understand the unique requirements of each apartment type and implement upgrades that went beyond the conventional, one-size-fits-all approach.
The tailored upgrades resulted in a significant improvement in the overall NatHERS rating for the development with fewer upgrades required for the architects. The lower floor and penthouse apartments, initially underperforming, now contribute positively to the project's sustainability goals. This achievement not only enhances the environmental performance of the building but also creates a more comfortable living space for its future occupants.
SUHO's recent Class 2 project showcases the importance of collaboration and tailored solutions in achieving sustainability objectives. By recognising the specific challenges posed by different apartment types and working closely with the architect, SUHO's ESD consultants ensured that upgrades were precisely calibrated to optimise energy efficiency. This approach not only elevates the NatHERS rating but also sets a standard for future developments, emphasising the significance of individualised solutions in sustainable architecture.
